What's Your Body Type?
100% Hardcore Truth
By Chris Walker  Fitness Professional

What do you mean what my body type is? Are you a mesomorph, ectomorph, or endomorph? What the heck are you talking about Chris. Ok, if you’re new to fitness you probably have no idea what these words mean so let’s take a closer look.

Body Types Explained

What is my body type and why it is important? Well it helps to determine what path to take when looking to obtain a fitness result. The way your body looks is determined by your genetics. Scientist W. H. Sheldon devised a system of classifying different human body types. He called this system “somoatotype”. Using his system humans can be classified into 3 types:

Mesomorph- the naturally muscular person with broad shoulders and increased metabolism. This person usually builds muscle mass quickly it’s great if you’re a male but sometimes not so desirable for females, exercise selection should be carefully considered for females in order not have that bulky look.

Ectomorph- the slim or skinny person linear in appearance with fast metabolism often the hard gainer. Increasing weight is often a concern for the ectomorph this is sometimes difficult but can be achieved.

Endomorph- the fat or round person in shape with usually an increased number of fat cells and a slow metabolism. This person can’t take much risks with eating junk food and is prone to gaining weight easily. This person really has to be on top of things to maintain weight.

Conclusion

This is not the be all end all some people even have a combination of the above but it’s definitely a good starting point. Knowing your body type will indicate what type of exercises you should do, what foods to eat and what diet risk you could take without sabotaging your goals.
