The gym is no place for a trainer.
100% Hardcore Truth
By Chris Walker Fitness Professional
The gym is no place for a trainer. Ok, it’s a great stepping stone but too many personal trainers get trapped working for fitness centers or gyms and suffer financially. Most personal trainers I know, either have a part time job or some other financial endeavor to supplement their income. Not to put fitness centers down because that’s where I got my start but the entire business structure is not suited to benefit a personal trainer financially. There are a growing number of trainers that love what they do but can’t make rent or car payments, as a result their forced to leave the health industry or live below the poverty line. I’ve heard of trainers being paid as little as 8.00 per hour. That’s absurd! Like I said, the gym is a great stepping stone because you get a lot of experience, especially if the gym has a huge membership base. A personal trainer can wind up gaining experience training clients of various age groups, backgrounds and with different medical histories. Vital information if one wishes to make it on his/her own.
Wake Up!
Well, I said all that to say… WAKE UP, personal trainers! You don’t have to suffer! You don’t have to be subject to “no-shows”, cancellations and broke pockets. It’s time to change the paradigm. It’s time to get paid what you deserve and like the professional you are. Until you realize that no one will ever pay you what you’re worth. You’ll suffer financially.
The Good News
The good news is once you learn how to market yourself properly you can make a six figure income doing what you love. Do you realize if you train 5-6 clients per day for one hour, six days a week that’s a SIX FIGURE INCOME. You do the math.
