Feel the Squeeze
100% Hardcore Truth
By Chris Walker Fitness Professional
Do you feel the squeeze? When was the last time you felt the squeeze?
What on earth are you talking about; you must be saying to yourself, ok, let me explain. While working out I usually observe other people and the vast majority, I’d probably say 80% are not feeling the squeeze. You may be one of those people so I encourage you to read on. The majority of people I observe are using momentum and kinetic energy to perform exercise movements; two things of which will bring you no RESULTS! You’re probably wondering what is this “squeeze” you’re talking about and what is “momentum” and “kinetic” energy, wait I’ll explain. You need to really feel the squeeze to get the maximum benefit out of your workout or in other words RESULTS. “Feel the squeeze” is a phrase I’ve coined; it simply means to squeeze (contract) the muscle. It sounds very simple and it is, but most of the people I’ve observed are not squeezing their muscles; they are just going through their exercises getting tired and going home with little or no results to show for their efforts.
The Squeeze Explained
Ok, what I mean by the squeeze is to contract your muscle on every exercise or repetition you perform. You should maintain focus and put your mind into every exercise movement. I won’t get into the science of muscle growth in this article but simply by executing proper technique and contracting your muscle on every repetition will bring about maximum RESULTS. After all, that is why you’re doing this entire exercise thing in the first place, right, so do it properly! The dictionary definition of kinetic is- the energy of a body that results from its motion. The dictionary definition of momentum is- strength or force that keeps growing. Now that I’ve clarified the meanings of those words; if all you’re doing through your exercise, for example biceps curl, is swinging your arms up and down your muscle has no idea its being exercised. You have to feel the contraction or “flex” your bicep muscle on every movement you perform, only then will you be stressing your muscle causing it to fatigue and bringing it to failure. Only then will your muscle have a reason to change or adapt and grow stronger. Only then will you have toned arms or 24 inch biceps. Most people I observe are just talking and swinging their arms around (momentum and kinetic energy) put some thought into your exercise regimen and you’ll get maximum RESULTS! Hope I made you think a little, if I could leave you with some parting words….DON’T BE A SWINGER, BE A SQUEEZER!
